Background

Televox’s platform has historically has been an enterprise product catered towards hospitals and larger health systems. Having a complex enterprise platform is effective for covering a wide variety of workflows and features for a large number of users with varying roles.

The gap that needed to addressed are private physician practices that have significantly less staff, many that may not have as much technical literacy. The vastness of the enterprise platform can be a strength for a large system but can be overly complex or even anxiety inducing for a small team running a local practice.

Practice Edition is the solution to delivering a simplified user experience to the staff of local practices, while keeping the key necessary functions and tools.

Design Considerations

Maintaining Identity

The challenge was for Practice Edition to have it’s own identity from the enterprise product, while maintaining a certain consistency to its enterprise counterpart to establish that it’s a Televox product.

To achieve this the overall navigation of the platform was kept the same as well as the styling of individual components, which also alleviates the level of effort for engineering. The changes that were implemented was a darkening of the primary color and the usage of spacing and screen real estate.

Intuitive Navigation

Users of the enterprise has access to many complex features which require multiple flows and very customizable configurations. Practice Edition aims to streamline the key functionalities that the staff use on a daily basis at their local practice. The solution for this was to minimize the amount of clicks and the need to navigate to over pages. Compared to the intertwined workflows of the enterprise edition, Practice Edition’s functions are all captured within their respective pages.

Minimal Design vs Functionality

The use of negative space and minimal design has been a trend to promote a “modern” feel, but this requires creative solutions to hide content to reduce clutter on the page. But considering the persona of the target user I opted to have the key information and functions present in one space.

Splitting the page in 2 halves with the top half occupied by cards reflecting either the key function or information and the bottom half being a table with the patient information, the user is able to access specific information while having an eye on the key actions taking place.

Execution and Reception

Rapidly working directly with the VP of Product, the PM, and a engineering team dedicated to this initiative. we were able to go from ideation to shipping our V1 in 3 months, immediately attracting attention from the smaller practices across the US.

Continued Growth and Challenges

Growing demand for features

As the client list increases and the smaller practices become more familiar with the platform, the demand for new enhancements and new features grow. The continuous challenge is to provide these features while maintaining the simplicity and intuitiveness of Practice Edition, which has been the key identity of the platform allowing it be accessible to smaller practices with less technical literacy.

Outgrowing identity

Though Practice Edition has not reached the tipping point, the ever growing consideration will always be on how complex can this platform become before accessibility suffers for new clients from smaller practices. Where is the line that will be drawn where the growth of Practice Edition become too close to the complexity of HouseCalls Pro.
